Which is the maximum allowed weight for each piece of baggage that goes in hold? Are there exceptions?
Each piece of registered baggage may not exceed 32 kgs., in any case. If baggage exceeeds this limit, part of content will have to be put into another baggage to be registered or as carry-on (if not exceeding foreseen limits).
Only exceptions concern wheelchairs and live animal containers.
How much carry-on may I have in cabin?
Each passenger may take only one carry-on in cabin not exceeding 5 kgs. and of total measure of 115 cms. (55 cms. length, 25 cms. height, 35 cms. depth), including handle, side pocket and wheels.
Check your carry-on is within these limits by using the on-purpose measurement containers, located near check-in desks and Alitalia boarding gates.
If your carry-on should be bigger than allowed, our staff will tag it and put it in hold.
Which objects are not allowed in my registered baggage?
Valuable or dangerous objects (such as jewellery, flammable liquids) or perishable (food or medicines).

For more information, see on the website the baggage regulations.
Can my baggage be inspected when I am not present?
Yes, it can. If we find lost baggage, in order to avoid further inconveniences, we may need to check its contents to make sure that it corresponds to the description in the Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
Furtermore, other countries' Authorities may inspect baggage, where deemed necessary, for security reasons (e.g. USA).
What should I do to make sure my baggage arrives at my destination with me?
Our staff label your baggage at the check-in desk. However, you should make sure that your baggage is securely closed and contains an identification tag inside too, in case the external label goes missing.

We cannot be held responsible for damage to valuable, fragile or perishable goods in any baggage registered by passengers. It’s a good idea to carry medicines, money, documents, keys, jewellery, cameras or any fragile object in your hand luggage.

For further explanations, please see the General Information for baggage transport.
Who should I contact in case my baggage is lost?
You should contact the baggage assistance service of the airline that operated the last flight.
You will find the airline code on the boarding pass next to the flight number (AP for Air One and AZ for Alitalia).
What do I do if I lose my baggage?
If your baggage goes missing, contact the Alitalia or Air One Lost & Found office at your arrival airport, that will give you a Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.) and all necessary instructions.
We remind you it is mandatory that it must be done at the final destination airport arrival time, before leaving the baggage collection area.
If you do not receive your baggage within five days after your arrival, you should send the following information:
  • detailed list of baggage contents
  • original plane ticket and excess baggage receipt (if possible)
  • original baggage stub
  • original Property Irregularity Report (PIR) completed upon your arrival.
Send these documents to the following address:

At this point, you will be able to follow the progress of your baggage search on our website, using WorldTracer, the international baggage tracking system.

For more information contact the Alitalia Baggage Customer Relations Office responsible for the area where you live.
What do I do if my baggage is damaged or tampered with during the flight?
If your baggage is damaged or tampered with, you have the right to claim compensation. At some airports, this will be paid immediately.
In other cases, where it is not possible, you can replace your damaged baggage (from Baggage Assistance) with a new suitcase or bag from the selection made available at the airport or from a shop participating in the scheme.

Which is the deadline to send a baggage related claim?
Baggage related claims must be filed with the Company within deadlines as follows:

In person and carry-on cases, any refund right is not possible if a claim or a legal action hasn't been filed with the Company within 2 years of arrival at final destination or within the day the aircraft should have arrived, or the day transportation was interrupted.
