Damaged or lost luggage

If your baggage is damaged or missing during your trip, before leaving the airport, go to the Lost & Found counter (operated by Laufer Aviation) at the arrivals hall, where you will be asked to fill out a “Damaged Property Report” (DPR) or a “Property Irregularity Report” (PIR). 
 
Damaged baggage (upon arrival in Israel) If your baggage is damaged, the Lost & Found counter (operated by Laufer Aviation) at the arrivals hall will provide you with the “Damaged Property Report” (DPR) and a list of luggage shops authorized to handle your baggage. You will have to provide the shop with the original “damaged property report” (D.P.R.) filled in at the airport .
If the contents of the luggage have also been damaged, you should contact us by sending a letter, within 7 days from the issuing date of the D.P.R., to:   Alitalia Airlines

Please enclose  the airline ticket, baggage tags and a detailed list of the damaged items, complete with the monetary value of the damage sustained and any appropriate documents to support your claim.                                     
 
Mishandled baggage

If anything is missing from your baggage, you can claim damages within seven days from the issuing date of the D.P.R, by writing to the same Customer Relations Office, along with the following documents to support your claim:
 
  • A description of the damage sustained along with the relative value
  • The airline ticket or electronic ticket receipt;
  • The baggage claim receipt
  • The Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.) filled out upon arrival at the airport
  • The claim presented to the Competent Authorities which must include a detailed list of the items declared missing from the registered baggage
  • The economic value of the damage sustained, supported by any appropriate documents.  
If you live abroad, please see the Alitalia Baggage Customer Relations Office responsible for the area where you live. Our offices will contact you at the address/number you provide in your letter.

Missing baggage
If your baggage is missing upon arrival, the personnel in charge at the Lost & Found counter at the arrivals hall will issue a Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.) and a copy will be given to you.   For the first 5 days that you are staying in Israel, you may contact the local Lost & Found Office (the phone number will be given to you when the P.I.R. is issued).

After the first 5 days, if your baggage has not been found, please send all the documentation listed below by mail or fax to the following address:   Laufer Aviation-GHI Lost & Found Office P.O.Box 118 Ben Gurion Airport 70100   FAX: 03-9754218 Phone: 03-9754072   Original documentation to be sent:
  • A detailed list of the baggage contents
  • The airline ticket or electronic ticket receipt
  • The receipt for excess baggage (if paid)
  • The baggage claim receipt for the missing luggage
  • The Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.) filled out upon arrival at the airport.
  If you reside abroad and your luggage does not arrive during your stay in Israel please see the Alitalia Baggage Customer Relations Office responsible for the area where you live and contact them upon your return.   Requests for the reimbursement of expenses incurred due to late baggage delivery abroad must be sent to the Alitalia Customer Relations Office responsible for the area where you live within 21 days of the date of baggage delivery.       

The information given in the Property Irregularity Report is inserted into WorldTracer, an automated tracking  system which enables you to follow the search.
Lost on board
If you have lost or forgotten an item on board the aircraft  or in one of the Alitalia reserved  areas, contact the airport Lost & Found office immediately,  and they will get in touch with you if the item is found.
