FAQ - Booking and purchasing

Answers to a wide range of frequently asked questions about Alitalia's services and products, locations and benefits and many of travel related issues. 

  • During online purchase, how can I go back from the payment page to the one before, of the passenger data?
    If at the moment of payment you want to go back to the page of passenger data, you must click on the browser's 'back' button.
  • After how long does an incomplete reservation unfinalised with the ticket purchase expire?
    Immediately, if ticket purchase is not done at the same time.
  • How many people can I buy for online?
    You can buy tickets online for a maximum of 7 passengers over 2 years old (of which one at least adult) and of as many children from 0 to 23 months as many are the corresponding adults. Purchasing is not available for code sharing flights
  • Can I buy a ticket online for an infant (0-23 months)?
    Yes, you can but don’t forget that infants must be accompanied by adults.
    Just type the number of infants (0-23 months) in the appropriate box at the beginning of the booking section.
  • How far in advance can I buy online?
    You can buy up to 341 days before any part of your journey (outbound or inbound).
  • Can I choose my seat when I book and buy online?
    Yes. During the online purchase procedure, you can choose your aircraft onboard seat when booking.
    Seat pre-assignment may be done only on intercontinental flights for one or more passengers and multiple legs.
  • What is the e-Coupon?
    An e-Coupon is an alfanumeric discount code (made up of letters and numbers) which gives you a further discount on tickets purchased on the Alitalia website. After selecting destination and flights, during the purchase process an e-Coupon space will appear where you will digit the code given, shown in the website page that describes the ongoing promotion. Once typed, the fare is recalculated with the e-Coupon discount amount.
  • Can I buy a ticket for other travellers online?
    Yes, you can.
    Please remind that if you are not the holder of the credit card used to book your flight, you must bring with you a photocopy of the credit card.
  • Can I buy online for a child under 12-year-old who is travelling alone?
    In order to ensure special care and attention for children, it is not possible to buy tickets online for children (up to 12 years old) travelling alone.
    For children between 5 and 14 years old (finished) a special procedure for unaccompanied minors must be enacted and completed at your local Alitalia office.
  • What else can I buy on the website?
    You can also buy on the site, besides airline tickets, some services: 
    • car rental 
    • hotel reservation
    • flight + hotel 
    • Alitalia Bus service

  • How can I pay online for my e-Ticket?
    To pay online, you can use one of the following credit cards: MasterCard, Visa, American Express. Otherwise, you can pay with the payment method, Webmoney/Yandex, in one of the ticket offices shown during the reservation process.
  • My credit card has been refused. What can I do?
    Check that you have entered the card number correctly (without leaving spaces between the figures) and that the expiry date is entered in the correct month/year format (e.g. September 2008 = 09/08).
    Remember though that card credit refusal reasons may be various, but you'll find all information messages you need to complete your purchase.
  • Can I buy a ticket online to fly with an airline other than Alitalia?
    Yes, if they are Alitalia flights and other airlines with whom there is a code-sharing agreement.
  • How do I know that my purchase has been successful?
    If you reach the last step of the online purchase process called 'Receipt' it means it has been successful. This page shows the purchase corresponding receipt that you must print and take with you for travel and show at check-in desks.
    Further, if you have correctly inserted your email address when requested and sending it goes through with no problems, you will receive a description of your purchase. This email is not a receipt or proof of confirm and the ticket purchased will be there anyway even if you should not receive it. You will receive confirmation the moment you have completed the purchasing procedure and you will be assigned a confirmation number for your booking (PNR) to be shown at check-in.
