Damaged or lost luggage

If your baggage has been damaged or lost during your trip, you should go to the airport's Lost & Found Office where you will be asked to fill out a “Damaged Property Report” (DPR) or a “Property Irregularity Report” (PIR).

Damaged baggage
For U.S. Residents: Arrangements have been made with several authorized luggage repair shops to repair or if necessary, to replace your luggage.

The list is available at our Lost & Found offices. In this case you must provide the shop with:
  • The damaged bag
  • Copy of passenger receipt (last page of ticket)
  • Copy of baggage claim tag of damaged bag
  • Original “damaged property report” (D.P.R.) filed at the airport of arrival
If you are unable to use this service, or are a non-U.S. Resident, please forward your claim in writing, with the above documentation and original detailed estimate of repairs from a bona fide luggage repair shop to the nearest Alitalia Customer Relations Office  in the country of permanent residence. The documentationmust be sent within 7 days from the date of issue of your Damaged Property Report, for international flights.

In the case of partially damaged contents,  send a detailed list of the damaged items to the same Customer Relations Office, along with any appropriate documents to support your claim.

Lost baggage
In the event that your luggage is not located within 5 days of your arrival, please complete this form and send with all the following documentation:
detailed list of contents of every item of unreturned luggage
  • air ticket and excess baggage receipt (if applicable)
  • the receipt portions of the luggage labels
  • the original of the Property Irregularity Report, filled out on arrival.
The information given in the Property Irregularity Reportis inserted into WorldTracer, an automated tracking  system which enables you to check how the search is progressing.

Lost on board
If you have lost or forgotten an item on board or in one of the Alitalia reserved  areas, contact the airport Lost & Found office,  and they will get in touch with you if the item is found.
