Answers to a wide range of frequently asked questions about Alitalia's services and products, locations and benefits and many of travel related issues.
You may take your baggage:
- in hold (registered baggage)
- in cabin (hand baggage)
Registered baggage allowed is:
Weight concept allowance
Flights in Italy and to Europe1, East Europe, North Africa2, Asia and Middle East3
Adults – Economy Class: max 20kgs; Business/Magnifica Classes: max 30kgs.
Infants (0-23 months): max 10Kgs.
Peice concept allowance
Flights to Americas4 and Central Africa
Adults – Economy Class: 2 suitcases max 23kgs each*; Business/Magnifica Classes: 2 suitcases max 32kgs each.
Infants (0-23 months): 1 suitcase max 23Kgs.

1. Flights from Italy to France and viceversa: 30Kgs in full fare Economy (Y booking class).
2. Flights from Italy to Casablanca and viceversa: 40Kgs both in Economy and in Business Classes.

4. Flights to/from Brazil from Italy: 2 suitcases max 23kgs each in Economy Class and 2 suitcases max 32kgs each in Business/Magnifica; from out of Italy: 2 suitcases max 32kgs each both in Economy and in Business/Magnifica Classes.

Each piece of registered baggage may not exceed 32 kgs., in any case. If baggage exceeeds this limit, part of content will have to be put into another baggage to be registered or as carry-on (if not exceeding foreseen limits).

Each passenger may take only one carry-on in cabin not exceeding 5 kgs. and of total measure of 115 cms. (55 cms. length, 25 cms. height, 35 cms. depth), including handle, side pocket and wheels.

Yes, it can. If we find lost baggage, in order to avoid further inconveniences, we may need to check its contents to make sure that it corresponds to the description in the Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
Furtermore, other countries' Authorities may inspect baggage, where deemed necessary, for security reasons (e.g. USA).

Our staff label your baggage at the check-in desk. However, you should make sure that your baggage is securely closed and contains an identification tag inside too, in case the external label goes missing.
We cannot be held responsible for damage to valuable, fragile or perishable goods in any baggage registered by passengers. It’s a good idea to carry medicines, money, documents, keys, jewellery, cameras or any fragile object in your hand luggage.

You should contact the baggage assistance service of the airline that operated the last flight.
You will find the airline code on the boarding pass next to the flight number (AP for Air One and AZ for Alitalia).

If you do not receive your baggage within five days after your arrival, you should send the following information:
- detailed list of baggage contents
- original plane ticket and excess baggage receipt (if applicable)
- original baggage stub
- original of the Property Irregularity Report (PIR) completed upon your arrival.

If your baggage is damaged or tampered with, you have the right to claim compensation. At some airports, this will be paid immediately.
In other cases, where it is not possible, you can replace your damaged baggage (from Baggage Assistance) with a new suitcase or bag from the selection made available at the airport or from a shop participating in the scheme.

Baggage related claims must be filed with the Company within deadlines as follows:
- for damaged or tampered with baggage: within 7 days of the airport report date form;
- for late baggage delivery: within 21 days from delivery.
