Diplomatic baggage

Regulations for baggage carried by diplomatic couriers Diplomatic baggage means a sealed bag, transported by a diplomatic courier,  declared upon check-in. 

For this reason, the bag is not transported 'under Alitalia’s custody'. Instead, it is considered as un-registered baggage, even if it has to be stowed in the hold due to its size.     

In any event, Alitalia is responsible for the loss and/or damage to the baggage according to the norms applicable to un-registered baggage.    

In the case of stowage in the plane’s hold, the courier must personally see to the transport of the diplomatic bag to and from the aircraft. The courier may personally witness the loading and un-loading of the item since it falls under his/her responsibility.
