The Boeing B777 is one of the world's largest twin-jets and contains some of the most advanced technology available.Alitalia's most prestigious aircraft, it joined the fleet in 2002: the inaugural flight on the 'Taormina' set off from Rome for New York on November 21 with 274 passengers onboard. At the present time there are 10 B777 aircraft in the Alitalia fleet, all flying on intercontinental routes.

Technical characteristics
More than 63 metres long and with a wingspan of over 60 m, the Alitalia B777 carries 291 passengers at a cruising speed of 920 km/h. The wing design, engine performance and lightweight structure all contribute to considerable energy savings, which significantly reduce not only operating costs, but also environmental impact.

Flight operations
The B777 contains some of the most recently developed civil aviation technology, including a turbojet engine more than 8 m long, some of the largest rear wheel assemblies ever mounted on a commercial aircraft, and a fully computerised control system. Inside the cabin, touch-screen control panels enable flight assistants to manage operations onboard with the greatest ease: from passenger call signals and lighting/temperature control, to entertainment systems.
