YOU ARE ALLOWED ONE ITEM OF HAND BAGGAGE WEIGHING NO MORE THAN 8 KG AND MEASURING NO MORE THAN:

• 55 cm HIGH
• 35 cm WIDE
• 25 cm DEEP

SIZE AND WEIGHT

The hand baggage you bring on board with you may weigh no more than 8 kg and measure no more than 55 cm in height, 35 cm in width and 25 cm in depth – including handles, side pockets and wheels. 

Before proceeding to the boarding gate, check the size and weight of your hand baggage with Alitalia ground personnel or by placing it in one of the baggage measurers near the check-in desk. Passengers who fail to perform this check of their hand baggage may be denied permission to board.

WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?

Briefcases and laptop computers are considered hand baggage and may be brought on board in addition to the limits indicated.
Crutches are also considered hand baggage.

ITEMS PROHIBITED IN THE CABIN

Items considered dangerous for flight security are not permitted in the cabin, such as scissors, pencil sharpeners, pocket knives, and agricultural, scientific, sports and industrial (or similar) tools, as well as replica firearms. No cigarettes, pipes or electronic cigarettes may be smoked on board. In addition, no lighters may be brought on board flights to the USA.

BAGGAGE ON FLIGHTS OPERATED BY AIR ONE OR OTHER PARTNER CARRIERS

BAGGAGE CHECKED INTO THE HOLD CANNOT WEIGH MORE THAN 23 OR 32 KG, DEPENDING ON THE TRAVEL CLASS AND DESTINATION. THE SIZE OF THE BAG MAY NOT EXCEED 158 CM – THE SUM OF THE HEIGHT, WIDTH AND DEPTH OF THE BAG.

At check-in, your bags will be weighed and tagged with your name, your flight itinerary, airport codes, flight numbers and dates. The desk staff will give you the stub so that you can identify your luggage upon arrival and so that, should the bags be lost, they are easier to track. We suggest you also put your own personal luggage tag on the bag, including your contact information, so that you can be reached in the event of a problem. Alitalia’s liability limits for lost or damaged luggage does not cover damage to items of value, fragile objects or perishable goods. SIZE, WEIGHT AND AMOUNT

Make sure your luggage is sufficiently sturdy and does not exceed the size limit of 158cm (height + width + depth). Cardboard boxes may be accepted as checked-in baggage as long as they bear a name, are wrapped in cellophane and do not exceed the above mentioned size limit.

Depending on the class you are traveling in, you may bring 1 or 2 bags weighing a maximum of 23 or 32 kg. If your luggage exceeds the number of pieces, or maximum weight or size allowed, you will be charged an excess baggage fee. For safety reasons, no single piece of luggage may weight more than 32 kg.

SPORTS EQUIPMENT

Bags containing sports equipment weighing up to, but less than, 23 kg are considered normal luggage and included in the allowance. Should the bag containing sporting equipment exceed 23 kg, a normal excess baggage fee will be charged. Surf and windsurf boards and tandem bicycles are an exception to this rule.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

All musical instruments in cases not exceeding a length of 100 cm can be transported as checked-in luggage, otherwise they will be shipped as cargo. Cellos in cases must have a regularly purchased reserved seat and may not exceed the following dimensions: 52x40x135 cm (width, depth, height).

WEAPONS AND AMMUNITION

Weapons and ammunition are not included in the baggage allowance. These items must be registered at check-in and a fee paid based on the destination. In no case may you exceed 20 kg for weapons and 5 kg for ammunition.

DIPLOMATIC BAG

A diplomatic bag, or pouch, is a sealed bag accompanied by a diplomatic courier who declares it as such during check-in.

DELAYED OR LOST LUGGAGE

If you should not get your luggage upon arrival, please go to the airport Lost & Found office of your destination city and fill in a Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.). You will be given a copy of the report and, if you are not a resident of the city, a kit containing some basic necessities including toiletries. Find out what you need to do to get refunded for expenses you may have sustained until you received your own luggage.

If your luggage is not found nor returned to you 45 days after your P.I.R., you can consider it permanently lost.

DAMAGED LUGGAGE

If your luggage was damaged during the journey, go to the airport Lost & Found office of the arrival city where the personnel on hand will do everything they can to help you. Depending on the type and extent of damage to your luggage and on your country of residence, Alitalia will give you a coupon towards the purchase of Alitalia tickets or a new piece of luggage with the same characteristics as the one that was damaged chosen from a catalogue of merchandise produced by a leading luggage manufacturer.

TAMPERED LUGGAGE

Is there something missing from your luggage?

Go immediately to the airport Lost & Found office for assistance and send a report within 7 days of filing the Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.) or 21 days after having received your luggage if the theft was ascertained following a delayed delivery.
