INVOICE ISSUE

An invoice must be requested at the same time as the ticket is bought. Exceptionally, for purchases through the call center, Alitalia ticket desk or website, an invoice can be requested within seven days of the date of purchase by filling in the appropriate form

REFUNDS

Refunds of the total or partial ticket price for flights canceled by the passenger are permitted in accordance with the conditions of carriage for the ticket bought. The conditions of carriage are shown during the booking and purchase process and on the ticket receipt.

Airport and security taxes are always refundable for all fares.

Refunds of tickets bought on alitalia.com, through the Customer Center and Alitalia ticket desks must be requested by telephoning the Customer Center on 89.20.10*. For tickets issued by travel agencies, the request should be sent to the agency.

HOW AND IN WHICH CASES TO INFORM ALITALIA OF FAILURE TO BOARD A FLIGHT

FOR DOMESTIC FLIGHTS

A request to maintain the validity of the ticket for subsequent flights if the outward flight is not used, for any reason, can be accepted only by sending the request to Alitalia, under the following terms and conditions:

  • Within 24 hours following the departure time of the unused outward flight and, in any case, at least 2 hours before the departure of the flight that you intend to use, by contacting the Customer Center, +39 06 65640, pressing button 2, option 4.

The call center will issue a new electronic ticket for which you must check in on the website (if available) or at the airport.

If passengers do not inform Alitalia as above, or do so after the deadlines indicated, when there are seats available on the flight, Alitalia reserves the right to request payment of an amount equal to the difference between the price paid for the previously bought ticket and the higher price applicable to the amended itinerary at the time the ticket is reissued.


FOR INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS

A request to maintain the validity of the ticket for subsequent flights can be accepted for the following reasons:

  • Illness that prevents flying, substantiated by an appropriate medical certificate from a hospital or equivalent in-patient or out-patient facility
  • Death of a first-degree relative, spouse or partner, substantiated by a death certificate
  • Fulfillment of obligations imposed by legal authorities or the police after the ticket was purchased, substantiated by a copy of the decisions made by these authorities

The occurrence of any of the above situations beyond your control must be communicated to Alitalia at least 2 hours before the departure of the flight you cannot use, by contacting the Customer Center on +39 06 65640 and pressing button 2, option 4.
The documentation that substantiates the event beyond your control must be sent to Alitalia by fax to the number 0230 134 136, within 48 hours of the above communication and, in any case, at least 12 hours before the departure of the flight you wish to confirm.

With the PosteID app you can make purchases with Alitalia authorizing payment from your smartphone and tablet.

  1. Once you have chosen your flight(s), select 'PosteID' from the payment options 

  2. Click the PosteID button and enter your Poste.it username on the screen (you will not be asked for your Poste.it password)

  3. You will receive a notification on the mobile device on which you installed the PosteID app with a request to authorize the transaction; you can also retrieve the notification by logging in directly to the ‘Pending authorizations' section of the app

  4. Authorize payment from your mobile device by entering the ‘PosteID code’: the purchase will be finalized and you will then return to the confirmation page of our site

  5. When the transaction is complete, you will receive an email confirmation of the ticket purchased from Alitalia and will be able to consult the list of transactions that you have authorized with PosteID in the ‘Confirmed authorizations’ section of the app

SHOP ON THE ALITALIA WEBSITE AND PAY WITH MASTERPASS, THE FREE SOLUTION FOR FAST AND SECURE ONLINE SHOPPING OFFERED BY MASTERCARD IN COLLABORATION WITH MAJOR ITALIAN BANKS.

If you have not already registered for MasterPass, check that your Bank is signed up to the service by visiting the credit institution's website or at Mastercard. Set up your free account, following your bank's instructions. The registration process is quick and easy, and you can store all your card details (credit, debit, prepaid) in one place.

With MasterPass you can purchase your flight in a few easy clicks: once you have selected your trip, choose MasterPass from the payment options. At this point you will be redirected to the secure page managed by MasterPass. Here, you can complete the payment by simply entering your details, and the cost will be debited from your chosen card.

When you have completed the transaction, a confirmation message will appear on the Alitalia webpage.

American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club, and Visa Electron: you can use any of these major credit cards to book tickets on the Alitalia website with the security of your purchases guaranteed.

FOR YOUR SECURITY: CODE AND PASSWORD

To make sure your purchase is 100% protected you must enter your credit card's security code, which you will find: 

  • For American Express cards (four digits), on the back above the credit card number 
  • For Visa, Diners Club, or MasterCard cards, (3 digits) on the signature strip on the back of the card


Please note: if you are not the owner of the credit card used to purchase your ticket, you must bring to the airport a photocopy of the card used.

To ensure the security of your payments, many banks require the use of the 3D Secure protocol, a fraud protection system used for Visa (Verified by Visa) and MasterCard (MasterCard SecureCode). You can activate the service completely free of charge on the website of your bank or credit card, by setting a password for your personal information.
Once activated, when you make an online purchase, you will be prompted to enter the password chosen to establish the cardholder's identity.

If you are a Gruppo Intesa Sanpaolo multi-channel customer and have activated Internet Banking, use the PagoInConto service for your Alitalia website purchases.

  3. Type in your access credentials: the account holder code, PIN and Key-Code 
  4. A screen—which cannot be modified—will pop up showing your details, which you must confirm. 
  5. When the bank authorizes payment, the purchase will be completed and you will return to the Alitalia website's confirmation page 
  6. Once the transaction is complete, you will receive an email from Alitalia confirming the ticket purchase.

If you have an account with BancoPosta and have activated Internet Banking, making a purchase on the Alitalia website is even easier.

  1. Once you have chosen your flight(s), select BancoPosta from the payment options. The system will connect you securely to the BancoPosta online payment system.
  2. Type in your personal data to access your account (username and password) and use your device code to confirm your purchase. 
  3. When BancoPosta authorizes payment, the purchase will be completed and you will return our website's confirmation page 
  4. Once the transaction is complete, you will receive two emails: one from Alitalia confirming the ticket(s) purchased* and the other from BancoPosta to your Postemail box confirming the debit.


If you are not a BancoPosta customer, you can request an account at any of Italy’s 14,000 post offices or directly online at the Bancopostaclick.it website. Once the account is open, remember to activate the internet banking service before making purchases on the Alitalia website.

From November 5, 2013, LIS PAGA Lottomatica Servizi sales points (tobacconists and bars) will apply a fee of EUR 2 for each ticket purchased by cash or PagoBancomat card.

Please note that for this type of purchase, where no receipt is issued, the transaction cannot immediately be considered valid. For this reason, the customer must obtain the Lottomatica receipt once the ticket has been paid for.
