FRIDA KAHLO EXHIBITION IN ROME

An unmissable event dedicated to Frida Kahlo, an original and controversial artist, symbol of the artistic avant-garde, revered forerunner of the feminist movement and undisputed figure of 20th-century Mexican culture.

Until August 31, the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome will play host to some of her best known masterpieces, including the famous Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird, on display in Italy for the first time, and other paintings, drawings and photographs from the most important museums in Mexico, Europe and the United States.

The exhibition, curated by Helga Prignitz-Poda, does not only reflect Frida's dramatic life, marked by her poor health during childhood and her involvement in a terrible road accident at the age of 17, but also her connections with all of the major international cultural movements that passed through the Mexico of her day: from Pauperism to Stridentism, from Surrealism to Magic Realism.

Despite her weak body, Frida always expressed a desire to be in the world, "Life insists on being my friend and destiny my nemesis," conveying herself on canvas with a pictorial language that was deeply evocative and striking, "I paint self-portraits because I am often alone, because I am the person I know best."

Fly to the exhibition with Alitalia: a special discount on the ticket price, just for you, as part of the Experience Italy promotion, if you keep your boarding pass and show it at the Scuderie ticket office.
