A SEA... OF HISTORY
If you love history, you'll find plenty of it here. One monument to visit above all? The Norman Castle in Nicastro. Its origins are ancient, from the 11th century, and the Castle is a fascinating construction that has been rebuilt, restored and extended over the centuries... It's like a chameleon!
And then there's the famous Bastion of Malta, the impressive coastal tower that you will also find on the Lamezia Terme coat of arms. Its great tactical value is clear to see and admire: The Bastion of the Knights of Malta was a watchtower and provided defense against enemy raids.
Meanwhile, a short distance away from Lamezia Terme, you'll find Gizzeria, where you can have fun on the beach and discover the very distinctive Fontana del Ponte, set in a striking colonnade of three arches. Also close to Lamezia Terme is the Coast of the Gods, whose very name is an attractive invitation to visit right away: Tropea is the largest in terms of beaches, and its picturesque and romantic historic center is a magnet for tourists from all over the world.
Fix your eyes on the breathtaking views you can admire from the many viewpoints in the historic center.
There's nothing better than setting the table with typical local products. At Lamezia Terme there's plenty to make your mouth water: as much salami as you like, butirro — the famous provola cheese filled with butter, and then the specialties of Calabrian cuisine, such as "carne dei pastori" and polpette alle mandorle — almond meatballs.
And for dessert? Pignolata, grispelle and cuzzupe, the traditional Easter desserts made of flour, eggs and yeast.
