You may be able to spot the iconic statue of Cristo Redentor atop the Corcovado Mountain on your fight to Rio de Janeiro in one of Alitalia's prestigious and modern aircraft.
When traveling to Rio de Janeiro, a visit to the statue of Christ is a must, as is a cable-car trip to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain. The views are particularly impressive as the sun is going down. Praia Vermelha is ideally placed for some relaxation before the ascent. Copacabana and Ipanema beaches are justifiably world-famous, as is Mardi Gras. Rio is not just about beaches, samba and parties, though – the Rodrigo Freitas Lagoa is popular for all types of sporting activities. There are opportunities for rock climbing and zip-lining nearby, as well as rainforest treks with canopy walkways (if you have a head for heights).
Between September and February visitors can enjoy Carnival rehearsals (every Saturday night) in various samba schools round the city like those at the Mangueira Samba School. If flying to Rio de Janeiro in February or March doesn't fit your schedule, you can still experience the noise and spectacle of the carnival rehearsals at other times of the year when cheap hotels in Rio de Janeiro are plentiful.
