As one of Brazil's oldest cities, fly to São Paulo and find a historic center that is full of major buildings of architectural importance. The city is known throughout Brazil for its great culture too. Try the Municipal Theatre for elegant splendor and some very interesting productions. The Museu Paulista or more commonly “Museu do Ipiranga” is another magnificent building with information on the early history of Brazil. For a complete change of mood, try Ibirapuera Park with its greenery and lovely fountains.
Tickets to São Paulo in July will be in time for Tanabata Matsuri, a colorful procession and festivities in the Japanese quarter. The Formula 1 Grand Prix takes place also take place in November each year. Although known for its reasonably priced accommodation, it may be harder to find a cheap hotel in São Paulo during the F1 week or the period of the carnival.
