Baggage assistance

DELAYED OR LOST LUGGAGE

If you should not get your luggage upon arrival, please go to the airport Lost & Found office of your destination city and fill in a Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.). You will be provided a copy of the report and instructions to send a claim.

 

In case after two days from your arrival and issuance of the P.I.R. your baggage has not yet been returned to you, send a detailed list of the contents along with the P.I.R. number and the baggage ID tag:

DELAYED BAGGAGE

If your baggage is delivered late, and you want to claim for reimbursement of expenses incurred while you were without your baggage or other compensation you must send a written claim within 21 days once your personal belongings have been returned to you, attaching a copy of the following documentation:

  • A signed detailed letter 
  • The Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.) issued by the Baggage Assistance Office
  • Receipt of your flight ticket and/or boarding card.
  • Copy of luggage tag or stub of the baggage ID tag
  • Copies of relevant receipts of reasonable expenses for necessities purchased while without luggage

 

You may submit a claim on line by filling out an online form in the section My Experience or by e-mail  to customer.relationCA@alitalia.it (for Canadian residents)  

If you live outside Canada you may submit your claim online in My Experience or write to the Customer Relations Office nearest to you.

LOST BAGGAGE

If you should not get your luggage upon arrival, please go to the airport Lost & Found office of your destination city and fill in a Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.). You will be provided a copy of the report and instructions to send a claim. 

We will search your luggage up to 45 days from the day you reported the loss.  At the end of this period, if the search will be unsuccessful, the baggage will be considered lost and you will be informed accordingly.

Please be aware that according to Montreal Convention if your luggage is not found within 21 days from the loss reported by the PIR, you will be entitled to claim for compensation. If you claim for compensation before the 45 days timeframe we will stop the search of your baggage.

You can send a claim - in the way and means explained above for delayed baggage - within two (2) years of the date on which the P.I.R. was submitted, attaching a copy of the following documentation:

  • A signed detailed letter
  • The Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.) issued by the Baggage Assistance Office
  • Receipt of your flight ticket and/or boarding card.
  • Copy of luggage tag or stub of the baggage ID tag
