PASSWORD

If you need to register on a site it is necessary to define an Account and a Password.

•       Consider the passwords as keys. Use a different one for each account, as if it is stolen it can be used to take over all your accounts.

•       Make it strong by using a mixture of upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters. The longer it is, the better.

•       Avoid using personal information, dictionary words and consecutive numbers as these can be guessed.

•       Consider using a “password phrase”. For example, choose a song or phrase and take the first letter of each word, substitute in numbers and special characters. e.g. Tx2l*hIwwUR (decrypts as "twinkle twinkle little star how I wonder what you are").

PHISHING

There is an internet fraud practice known as 'phishing' which is the illegal gathering of personal information by deception. Fraudsters pose as a trusted source (like your bank), and try to get you to divulge your personal details.

If you suspect that you have received a fraudulent email:

•       Don’t click on any links or attachments, and check the sender's address.

•       Never provide your bank account or personal details

•       Report a phishing email that appears to be from Alitalia by sending it to informatica.sicurezza@alitalia.com (please note that we cannot enter into correspondence over emails sent to this address, therefore you will not receive a reply)

Legitimate emails from Alitalia will contain your booking reference and the email will not have been sent from a web-based mail server such as gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc.

Alitalia never asks, through e-mails, letters or phone calls, to provide personal codes and the data of credit cards.

Therefore it is not appropriate to answer e-mails, letters or phone calls that have as their object the request for personal data.

 

Here are the incidents of fraudulent emails and other phishing scams that we're currently aware of:

 

1.       Scam of fake survey:

It through an email apparently sent by Alitalia, is asked to click on a link to participate in a survey, for which there is a reward of 80 €.

The unsuspecting user who adheres to this proposal finds himself navigating a web page created by fraudulently using the logos of Alitalia. Here you will have to complete the survey that asks, among other things: to confirm your identity; enter the number of the credit card; their due date and other sensitive data. The informations can then be used to steal our money or are resold to specialized criminal organizations.

2.       Smishing: Attempted Phishing via SMS.

SMS messages are sent which contain all a link through which fraudsters redirect their victims to a phishing site, designed in order to fraudulently collect login credentials. The credentials can then be used to steal our money or are resold to specialized criminal organizations.

3.       Scam of fake refund €128.41:

This fraud has made through an email apparently sent by Alitalia. The e-mail contains an information on a fake refund to the customer of 128,41 € and is asked to click on a link to access the form and complete a survey.

The unsuspecting user who adheres to this proposal finds himself navigating a web page created by fraudulently using the logos of Alitalia. Here you will have to complete the form that asks to confirm your identity; enter the number of the credit card; their due date and security code. The informations can then be used to steal our money or are resold to specialized criminal organizations.

Alitalia makes a refund of tickets only against a customer request and sends the refund note by e-mail only if required by the customer

The refund of tickets bought on alitalia.com, via Customer Center and Alitalia ticket office must be requested by telephoning the Customer Center on 89.20.10. For tickets issued by travel agencies, the request should be sent to the agency.

4.        Scam of fake refund €200.31:

This fraud has made through an email apparently sent by Alitalia. The e-mail contains an information on a fake refund to the customer immediately available of 200,31 € in response to request of clicking on a link to access the form and complete a survey.

Here you will have to complete the form that asks to confirm your identity; enter the number of the credit card; their due date and security code. The informations can then be used to steal our money or are resold to specialized criminal organizations.

5.       Prize ticket scam:

The aim of this scam is to make the user pay for services without their knowledge on mobile platforms by tricking them into taking part in an online competition where there are two "free" air tickets to be won.

A link is posted on social networking sites that prompts users to respond to a questionnaire. Once completed, the user will be drawn as the alleged winner and invited to share the promotion and "like" it on social media. Following this, the user is redirected to other sites where they are asked to sign up and subscribe in order to receive these "free" tickets.

6.       Other online scams:

Among the other most common scams that you may encounter online are false job offers, notifications of free travel tickets or winning a lottery, inherited from distant relatives. Typically cash advances are requested or coordinated their account together with personal references to access online (PIN and password). The informations can then be used to steal our money or are resold to specialized criminal organizations.

Furthermore by adhering to these types of requests, the account could be used for their transit amounts of money illegally obtained in previous operations by fraudsters.

SAFE PURCHASE

When you make purchases on Internet

•       Look for ‘https’ at the start of the web address (the ‘s’ stands for secure).

•       Check that a padlock is displayed when entering personal or financial information. Be sure that the padlock is not on the page itself, this will probably indicate a fraudulent site.

A green bar may also appear which means that the website has a valid security certificate

MOBILE DEVICES

Mobile devices are essentially small computers so you must protect it from intrusion following these tips:

•       Install anti-virus software to protect from 'malware' (malicious software).

•       Protect your mobile with a password or PIN.

•       Keep your apps up to date.
