USEFUL INFORMATION
We suggest that you put your own personal luggage tag on the baggage, including your contact information, so that you can be reached in the event of a problem.
Cardboard boxes may be accepted as checked baggage, provided they are labeled with the passenger's name, wrapped in cellophane and comply with the maximum allowed size.
Passengers requesting special assistance can purchase extra baggage saving up to 50%, and passengers holding a Light fare ticket can purchase baggage allowance by calling the dedicated number one day before their flight departure date.
Please note that, for safety reasons, each item of baggage may not weigh more than 32 kg.
Alitalia's liability limits for lost or damaged baggage is based on Montreal Convention 1999 unless a higher value is declared in advance.
If you wish to extend these limits, find out how you can make a DECLARATION OF VALUE.
DECLARATION OF VALUE
Alitalia’s liability limits for lost or damaged baggage do not cover damage to items of value, fragile or perishable items. For more details, please read the applicable regulations.
You may, if you wish, extend the coverage offered by Alitalia by paying an additional fee for a “declaration of value” for which an excess baggage ticket is issued citing the number of the tag on the baggage containing the item(s) of value.
The liability limits for each piece of checked baggage, both on entirely domestic or international flights, can be increased to EUR 500 by paying EUR 50 for each piece of baggage. The EUR 500 would be paid out by the Customer Relations Office, together with the amounts required under applicable regulations.
The declaration of value is accepted at face value and without verification of the actual value of the contents of the baggage and cannot cover items that are not acceptable as baggage or that cannot fit in the baggage, as per the provisions of Alitalia’s General Conditions of Carriage. Passengers cannot make a declaration of value for less than the fixed amount offered by the Airline in accordance with the above.
Alitalia cannot accept a declaration of value for checked baggage if it will be transported by another airline along any part of the flight itinerary.
