Light fare regulations


  • This fare does not include hold baggage.
  • The fare allows one piece of hand baggage to be taken on board weighing no more than 8 kg and measuring no more than 55 cm in height, 35 cm in width and 25 cm in depth, including handles, side pockets and wheels. In addition, one of the following accessories may be brought: briefcase, laptop computer or handbag.
  • Compliance of hand baggage will be checked at the boarding gate.
  • For hand baggage that exceeds the permitted weight or size, or for baggage to be put in the hold, a supplement of EUR 25* per direction for the first bag is payable for purchases made on the Alitalia website (during online check-in) through call centers and EUR 45* per direction for purchases made at airport ticket desks and check-in desks. For additional baggage to put in the hold, the standard baggage allowance applies
  • It is not possible to purchase baggage online at the reduced €25 fare for flights operated by other carriers or departing from the following airports: Amsterdam, Beirut, Belgrade, Copenhagen, Corfu, Dubrovnik, Frankfurt, Fuerte Ventura, Geneva, Gran Canaria, Havana, Heraklion, Ibiza, Krakow, Lampedusa, Menorca, Mykonos, Olbia, Oran, Palma de Mallorca, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Podgorica, Rhodi, Santorini, Split, Tenerife, Teheran, Tirana, Tunis, Zurich.
  • The fare for 1st PC is $30 on the web and $50.00 at the airport (not in EUR), Any further extra PC is $200.00, Extra size is $300.00 and extra weight is $75.00.
  • The fare also applies to one-way  and round trip flights
  • For all domestic and international destinations, the fare applies only to Alitalia flights operated by Alitalia aircraft. 
  • The fare is also available on all direct domestic flights and domestic flights with a stopover and on most direct international flights and international flights with a stopover.
  • Flights to/from the following domestic destinations are excluded: Alghero-Rome Fiumicino, Alghero-Milan Linate, Cagliari-Rome Fiumicino, Cagliari-Milan Linate, Lampedusa-Rome Fiumicino, Lampedusa-Milan Linate, Olbia-Pisa.
  • Flights to/from the following international destinations are excluded: Algiers, Belgrade, Cairo, Casablanca, Moscow, Oran, Podgorica, St. Petersburg, Tunis, Vienna and Zurich. 
  • The fare does not cover refunds but, for domestic flights, changes to the booking and/or itinerary can be made before departure for a fee of EUR 60.
  • The light fare from Tel Aviv  is valid only on TLV –Rome  flights AZ807, AZ813 and for Rome – Tel Aviv on AZ806, AZ808 for the return
  • One of the two journey legs can be taken with other Alitalia fares.
  • The light fare is valid for maximum stay of 1 month in destination 
  • The Light fare is valid for Minimum stay at destination 3 days or Saturday or Sunday 
  • There are no discounts for children (aged 2–10 years inclusive).
  • Infants (under the age of 2 years) can occupy a seat provided that they travel in an approved child safety seat. In this case, 100% of the light fare is payable and no further discounts are applied.
  • Strollers are transported for free.

  • The light fare does not allow you to choose or change the seat that is automatically assigned; however, when traveling with children under 12 years, if the system does not automatically assign the child's seat next to at least one of the adults included in the booking code, at least one of the two parents may ask to change their seat, free of charge, so that they can travel next to their child. The request can be made directly at the check-in desk at the departure airport
  • The choice of the seat is allowed on the Alitalia website during online check-in if allowed by the system; in all remaining cases the seat will be assigned automatically. 
  • You can also buy an extra comfort seat on the Alitalia website, but only during online check-in; for further information click here
  • You can only check in online, from your cellphone, via the Alitalia app if permitted or at the Fast Check-in desks at the airport. In the remaining cases, you may check in at the airport desks.
  • Members of the Freccia Alata Plus, Freccia Alata, Ulisse, Elite and Elite Plus Clubs will be entitled to:
    • One piece of hold baggage plus any sports equipment
    • Change their seat (only available to Freccia Alata Plus and Freccia Alata Members)  and choose an Extra Comfort Seat during web check-in or self check-in for all corporate cardsCheck in at the airport, only in the lounge if permitted (only for Freccia Alata and Freccia Alata Plus) or at the SkyPriority priority desks (only for Ulisse, Freccia Alata Plus, Freccia Alata and Elite Plus)
  • Co-branded Intesa SanPaolo Alitalia card holders who buy a light fare will be entitled to hold baggage, which they can request at check-in by simply showing their card, according to the following rules:
    • MilleMiglia basic members are entitled to one piece of baggage.
    • Ulisse, Freccia Alata and Freccia Alata Plus members are entitled to two pieces of baggage.
  • Miles cannot be used with MilleMiglia Cash & Miles to request a discount on the total purchase price of a ticket with the light fare
  • You can not use the e-coupon codes provided by the co-brand card Alitalia Intesa Sanpaolo or any other promotional code when buying light fare tickets.


*The price can vary based on the moment of purchase of the baggage service. If a passenger with Light fare purchases hold luggage at the airport, an additional charge may be applied depending on the departure airport (defined by the Airport Operator)
