From 8 December 2020, passengers arriving in Italy from the United States on a "Covid-Tested" flight, operated by Alitalia and departing from New York, are no longer subjected to mandatory quarantine where currently required.
Following the ordinance of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of 23 November 2020 (GU n.294 of 26/11/2020) from 8 December 2020, all flights between New York and Rome Fiumicino (and from 10 December also those between Rome Fiumicino and New York) are subject to a trial procedure until 30 June 2021, to ensure your trip and your stay are even safer and more comfortable.
On flights which are identified during the purchase phase with the name "Covid-Tested", only passengers who test negative for Covid-19 are allowed to board, after having carried out a rapid or molecular antigen test (RT PCR) taken via swab within 48 hours of boarding.
From 23 March 2021, for passengers departing from the USA it is obligatory to complete the European Digital Passenger Locator Form (dPLF), the European digital form that helps Public Health Authorities to contact you in the event of exposure to SARS-CoV-2 during your trip.
Upon arrival at Rome Fiumicino, passengers are required to undergo an antigen test; in the event of a negative result, free access and transit on Italian territory is allowed, without the need, where applicable, to comply with the obligations of health surveillance and fiduciary isolation.
We recommend that all passengers arriving in the United States check quarantine obligations on the government websites of individual states.
We also remind passengers that, as a consequence of a recent Executive Order issued in the U.S., it is compulsory to wear a protective surgical mask at all times during the flight and that the mask should be changed every 4 hours. Children under the age of 2 and people with a certified disability preventing them from wearing a mask are exempt. Non-compliance with this requirement may result in denial of boarding or removal from the aircraft and/or penalties under U.S. Federal law.
