1950. THE FIRST HOSTESS ARRIVE
At the beginning of the 50s Alitalia crew is enhanced by the presence of the first female flight attendants. The uniforms are designed by Sorelle Fontana.
1951. THE FIRST WARM MEALS ARE SERVED ON BOARD
A few years after the first flight, Alitalia starts an on board meal service that is immediately recognized as one of the best in the world. The first warm meals are served on Richard Ginori china.
1952. A CONVAIR 340 IS ADDED TO THE FLEET
The Alitalia fleet grows thanks to a Convair 340, the first airplane with a pressurized cabin, with better capacity and flight range.
1957. THE MERGE BETWEEN ALITALIA AND LAI
Alitalia and LAI unite to create a single, larger, flag carrier. Alitalia – Linee Aeree Italiane is born, with a fleet of 37 aircraft, 3,000 employees and routes that cover approximately 100,000 km. The network increases also thanks to the first flights to North America.
