USEFUL INFORMATION

We suggest that you put your own personal luggage tag on the baggage, including your contact information, so that you can be reached in the event of a problem.
Cardboard boxes may be accepted as checked baggage, provided they are labeled with the passenger's name, wrapped in cellophane and comply with the maximum allowed size.

Passengers who have requested special assistance, holding a Light fare ticket, may purchase extra baggage allowance saving up to 50% by calling the dedicated number one day before their flight departure date.

Please note that, for safety reasons, each item of baggage may not weigh more than 32 kg.

Alitalia's liability limits for lost or damaged baggage is based on Montreal Convention 1999 unless a higher value is declared in advance.

If you wish to extend these limits, find out how you can make a DECLARATION OF VALUE.

DECLARATION OF VALUE

Alitalia’s liability limits for lost or damaged baggage do not cover damage to items of value, fragile or perishable items. For more details, please read the applicable regulations

You may, if you wish, extend the coverage offered by Alitalia by paying an additional fee for a “declaration of value” for which an excess baggage ticket is issued citing the number of the tag on the baggage containing the item(s) of value.

The liability limits for each piece of checked baggage, both on entirely domestic or international flights, can be increased to EUR 500 by paying EUR 50 for each piece of baggage. The EUR 500 would be paid out by the Customer Relations Office, together with the amounts required under applicable regulations.

The declaration of value is accepted at face value and without verification of the actual value of the contents of the baggage and cannot cover items that are not acceptable as baggage or that cannot fit in the baggage, as per the provisions of Alitalia’s General Conditions of Carriage. Passengers cannot make a declaration of value for less than the fixed amount offered by the Airline in accordance with the above.

Alitalia cannot accept a declaration of value for checked baggage if it will be transported by another airline along any part of the flight itinerary.

Battery-powered devices placed in checked baggage should be protected from damage and accidental activation. To reduce risks to aviation safety, prior to being placed in checked baggage, battery-powered electronic devices should be completely powered down. Alarms or preset configurations that may cause the device to power up while in cargo hold, should be disabled or deactivated.  The device should be placed in some protective packaging or casing to prevent not only physical damage but also to prevent accidental activation.

LITHIUM BATTERIES

Spare lithium batteries are prohibited from checked baggage (including baggage checked at the gate or on-board the aircraft).  Each spare lithium battery must be individually protected so as to prevent short circuits (e.g., by placement in original retail packaging, by otherwise insulating terminals by taping over exposed terminals, or placing each batter in a separate plastic bag or protective pouch). Batteries must not exceed the allowable quantity and size limitations.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 mobile devices are banned from all the Alitalia’s flights for safety reasons. For more information and a list of hazardous materials, visit FAA’s Pack Safe website.
